Who We Are
The Verulam Angling Club was formed in 1934 by some 14-20 local businessmen and has been providing quality fisheries and sport for its members ever since. Over the years the club has flourished and grown, to the extent that it now caters for over 2000 members, offering a diverse portfolio of fisheries.
The club controls a wide variety of coarse fishing on rivers, lakes, gravel pits and canals as well as offering waters dedicated to fly-fishing for trout. We provide the opportunities to catch whatever your target is, be it a few bites in pleasant surroundings to a specimen of a lifetime. Night fishing is available at no extra cost on a number of our venues.
The Club has an active match section fishing a full calendar of matches across a variety of home and ‘away’ venues. There are several charity matches, the championship series and the ever-popular summer evening league.
We are very proud of our fisheries. Each fishery has a dedicated fishery manager and a team of bailiffs to support them. We ask that all able-bodied members complete one working party a year to assist with the upkeep and management of the fisheries. These can be anything from litter-picking to full-blown groundworks so we will always allocate tasks proportionate to your suitability. For those that are less physically able and may still want to “do their bit” we have a range of administration tasks that we require assistance with from time to time throughout the year.
Who is it for?
During The Summer 2025, we will be holding regular coaching sessions for complete beginners and those wishing to improve their angling skills.
Our sessions are designed for young anglers and provide a 30 minute 1:1 with free tackle and bait, along with a supervised area where our young anglers can practice what they've just learnt.
Need to Know
Juniors are more than welcome in the club and with no entrance fee plus reduced subscriptions, it is our intention to encourage more youngsters into our sport. We also allow non-fishing guest on most fisheries and we have toilet facilities on most of our still water venues. At Riverside Road we have a toilet block with hot and cold water, and a small Angler’s Retreat with tea and coffee making facilities
