Who We Are
The Pilates Barns was founded by Clare Axon-Saunders, who discovered Pilates in 2006, trained as a teacher and opened her first studio in St Albans in 2009. The business has since grown to include a studio on the Luton Hoo Estate near Harpenden, while the St Albans studio on Butterfield Lane continues to offer the same classical approach. Classes use the full range of traditional Pilates apparatus – reformers, towers, chairs and barrels – in a calm, welcoming setting with no loud music or fitness fads, just focused teaching from experienced, certified instructors.
Who is it for?
Reformer Pilates classes in St Albans for all levels, from complete beginners and people returning to exercise, to experienced Pilates fans wanting to build strength, posture and mobility. Group classes are small (3–8 people), so teachers know your name and can adapt exercises for you. Private and duet sessions are available for anyone with specific goals, injuries or medical referrals who would like one-to-one guidance first.
Need to Know
The St Albans studio is at 16 Butterfield Lane, St Albans, AL1 2HJ, with free on-site parking on the driveway or on the street nearby. The studio is open Monday to Saturday and classes run 48 weeks of the year. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in (no zips or buttons that could mark the equipment), bring a water bottle, and grip socks are advised. A strict 24-hour cancellation policy applies. If you are pregnant, or have an injury or medical condition, please let the studio know before your first class. Booking and payment run through the studio's own live timetable, with a single class at £35, intro packs, class passes and monthly memberships available.
