Who We Are

As British Fencing's Club of the Year, we provide a wide range of courses to support students from all backgrounds and levels. At the Academy we create environments that foster friendship, respect, hard work and reward success. We create sessions that are fun, engaging, and energetic and provide a service that is the same for all. We use Fencing as a tool to develop a child’s wellbeing and contribution to their local community.

Who is it for?

Calling all Pirates, Jedi's, Knights, and future Olympians. If you've never fenced before but fancy having a go, then our 4 week beginners programme is for you as you take your first step into the world of sword fighting while developing essential life skills. Beyond that, our academy caters for all levels and abilities. Our coaches have proven track records of nurturing, developing and supporting athletes from grass roots to the World Championships. The sessions are delivered by passionate and highly experienced Academy coaches. If you wish to compete, your Fencer will progress with the Academy, with the focus on a podium finish at the National and International Championships.

Need to Know

The Academy was established in 2009 by Paul in the canteen at Verulam School with 10 sets of equipment purchased with a £1000 grant from the 948 Foundation. Paul booked the canteen for 6 weeks only just in case the class did not get sufficient members. From here the demand started to grow and Schools started requesting Fencing sessions. Andy joined Paul as they started delivering more sessions and opened a second community session at the Palladian Church in Ayot St Lawrence. Over the next decade the Academy continued to grow and Paul took on more coaches and a brilliant support team. The Academy now teaches 107 sessions a week from a purpose built Centre in the heart of St Albans and has incredible success on and off the piste.
