Who We Are
We are a brand new tabletop gaming venue in Hertfordshire providing a comfortable
environment to play your favourite games like Warhammer, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering and much more!
We have eleven dedicated 6' x 4' gaming tables available to
6 days a week!
We serve a range of drinks including fresh coffee, cold spot drinks and local craft beer.
Our food range has light snacks, lunches and 12" pizzas.
We stock Games Workshop miniatures products at 15% off RRP as well as a range of other games like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
Who is it for?
The Dark Fire Café is here for all tabletop gamers. You may want to come and play one of our classic boardgames and join in with a group already playing, alternatively you may already have a group and you’re just looking for a great venue to play, with tables and refreshments on tap.
Our "Learn to Play" sessions are specially devised for newbies to a particular game. Currently we are running those for Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer 40,000, so if you fancy having a crack at either then sign up for a "learn to Play" session and and let us guide you through the set up, the rules and get you playing in no time.
There is always plenty going on besides "Learn to Play", you can join a tournament, or a league, or you might fancy taking part in one of our event days where we will be dedicating the floor to a single game.
Currently we have Warhammer leagues and future events include Warhammer Age of Sigma, Warhammer 40k, Middle Earth, Magic: The Gathering and Star Wars Legion.
Or maybe you just want to come and drink coffee and watch the world go by – you’re very welcome!
Need to Know
Steve is a well-known gamer in St Albans, in pre-covid days he was part of the team that ran Magic:The Gathering games in Chaos City Comics, and has kept close ties with a number of gaming communities in and around St Albans. And so in June 2023 he and a partner opened Dark Fire Café to provide a permanent home for the tabletop gaming community in St Albans, and to serve exceptional coffee, cakes and pizza too! As a venue it aims to be welcoming to the newbie and to promote and support the local gaming clubs too.
