Who We Are
Clay with Carole is a friendly pottery teaching studio tucked into a light, tranquil garden studio in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Founded in 2010 by potter Carole Sender – a Great Pottery Throwdown contestant – the studio is now run alongside her daughter and fellow teacher Talia. Between them they teach wheel throwing (pottery wheel classes) and hand building techniques such as coiling, pinching and slab building, guiding you through shaping, decorating and glazing your own ceramics and ceramic art.
Who is it for?
Clay with Carole classes suit everyone, from complete beginners trying pottery for the first time to improvers and intermediate potters wanting to develop their skills. There are pottery classes and workshops for adults, teens and children, plus family pottery sessions, birthday parties, hen dos, a creative date night (Pots and Prosecco), and corporate team building days in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Need to Know
The studio has a hand building area seating up to 24 people and a separate wheel room with 6 pottery wheels, plus a large kiln for firing (allow around a month for glazed pieces to be ready for collection). It's a 5-minute drive, or around a 20-minute walk, from Hitchin town centre and station, with free street parking right outside. Private 1:1 classes run on weekdays; group classes, workshops and courses are available on weekends and evenings too.
