Who We Are

Here at Braid Maidens we are passionate about teaching you how to braid and have taught over 1100 people in-person, including over 200 men, in the last 18 months. We particularly love teaching the Dutch Braid as it’s SO versatile but also cover the 3 strand plait, French Plaits, Fishtail Braids, Crowns Braids, Waterfalls Braids and many more. We believe that braiding is a mindful and creative life-skill that should be passed down the generations. Plus it makes both the braider and braidee feel good! We organise classes based on skill level (never braided anything, up to I’m seriously good but want to be a pro!), and also run classes especially for dads, classes in your own home (braids and bubbles with friends is a great combination), sports and dance braids, along with private classes and corporate and PTA fundraiser events.

Need to Know

Hi, I’m Annis, the founder of Braid Maidens. The idea behind Braid Maidens is to spread the joy of braiding hair, whether we’re teaching it or creating a style. It all started when my daughter got into Frozen. From the age of 2 to 7 she wanted to be Elsa or Anna EVERY day. The French plaits I’d taught myself as a child weren’t cutting it anymore so I had to up my game. I got on YouTube and taught myself the Dutch braid. She was happy, I was hooked. When she was 4, I started a Frozen hair stall at her school fair. The children were delighted with whatever we did (and my braids were limited back then) but what struck me was the parents’ reaction to me braiding. So many of them said, “I wish I could do that.” That sparked something for me and so the idea of Braid Maidens was born. Roll on 5 years and a false start at the beginning of lockdown - Braid Maidens is now in full swing. Since October 2021 we have taught over 1100 people in person, how to braid (including; live on ITV's This Morning, a national rugby team, 200+ dads and children) have braided over 230 at parties and events and have gone viral in the international media because of our #BraidsandBeers™️ class. I’m excited about these numbers continuing to grow over the coming months and years. Our team is expanding and we have exciting plans for the future that I can’t wait to see come into fruition. This really is my dream job and it's bringing so many 'pinch me' moments. Whether we’re teaching the braiding skill or making someone feel good with a beautiful braid, that’s the legacy we want to pass on via Braid Maidens. Hope to teach you/ braid you soon, Annis x
