What you will learn I have been running this photography course in St Albans for just over 10 years now and it has proved hugely popular with anyone wishing to get to grips with their DSLR. It is aimed at beginners who want to learn to take better photos by getting to know their camera better, but also by working on composition and light. This beginner photography course is perfect for you if: You’re looking to learn in a friendly and supportive environment You’d like to reconnect with a creative passion You feel frustrated that you’re not currently making the most from your photography equipment If you would like to learn how to capture brilliant shots Here are some of the topics we will cover during our 5-week photography course. Shooting in Manual mode by understanding the exposure triangle: the relationship between Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO setting The impact of the lens/focal length on your image How to recognise the different types of light and understand white balance Focusing techniques for sharper pictures How to compose your photos to create really compelling images, these skills are so valuable as they can be applied regardless of your equipment, including the camera on your phone Prerequisites There are no prerequisites for this course but you will need a digital SLR (Canon or Nikon) or any camera with an interchangeable lens such as Panasonic Lumix, Olympus, Fuji, Sony and if you have more than one lens please bring them along to the course. Photography course in St Albans The class will be taking place in my home in St Albans, Hertfordshire (near the Quadrant in Marshalswick). I will be teaching the class and places will be limited to a maximum of 6 participants to make sure everyone gets as much as possible out of the class. The first 4 sessions will be classroom-based and the last session will be a hands-on practical session, shooting outdoors if the weather permits. There will be assignments each week that will require 1 to 2 hours of your own time outside of the class. The more work you put into this course, the more you will get out of it! We'll be covering a lot of ground each week so I recommend you only sign up for the course if you are able to attend all five sessions.
