Join us for a relaxed, creative evening at the friendly Sibthorpe Arms in Welham Green, and learn the gentle art of Chigiri-e. In this hands-on workshop, you'll decorate a candle jar and a Christmas bauble using beautiful torn paper techniques. Whether you're a complete beginner or just looking for a festive night out, you'll leave with two handmade pieces to take home and enjoy. This is a brand new workshop designed to be an introduction to the Japanese artform of Chigiri-e. In the 3 hour workshop, you will learn the basic techniques that will enable you to create a beautiful candle jar and bauble in the session. So what is Chigiri-e? Chigiri-e is a Japanese paper art a traditional Japanese collage art form where images are created by tearing and layering colored paper onto a background, rather than cutting. The name combines chigiri (to tear or shred) and e (picture). The resulting images often have a soft texture, resembling watercolor paintings, and can be either realistic or abstract.
